Artist's Comments

Project for english class where we had to illustrate the climax of the novel Lord of the Flies. Basically this scene is when the tribe boys who have gone savage on this tropical island are so dellusional with their own power, that the beleive Simon (my favorite character, and the dead guy at the bottom of the pic) is a beast. The eye in the corner represents one of the boys who didn't turn into a savage (main character, his name is Ralph). so he is horrified as he watches Simon die. The guy screaming on the right is Jack, the Chief of the tribe. and the guy in the middle represents the savage boys (I didn't feel like drawing like 10 more boys in the background >>

But this was done in about 2 days

and it's colored with chalk. and of course my camera made the middle boy crappy! D:<

same with the dead boy Simon.

the pic in real life looks like... ten times better than it does in a picture ._.

oh well, comments? xD

I really love how you did Ralph's eye - the detail is wonderful. Augh, maybe a little too much detail in Simon's innards, though... xD

I loved this book, but my favorite character was probably Ralph or Samneric. :) Nice pic. Too bad about the bad quality...

.... I thought your desk was part of the picture for a second, and was like "Woah, she did that with chalk?" XD

Anyway, this is really good! I like how you did the eye, and how the cheek merges into the background. :hug:

Thanks! And my teacher suggested I make it as detailed as possible for a good grade xD

And the twins were definitely also one of my favorite characters! (I drew sketches of them as hot teenagers in my sketchbook) xDDD

Secondly: I think I like Jack the best in this drawing, with his evil laugh. Poor Simon.

Hmm, screaming? I don't know if you can change it at this point, but I'd try not to make the corner of his mouth upturned, then-- it just gives off the impression of laughter, madness, happiness, etc, not screaming.

I think it looks like screaming. Because if it was laughter, you wouldn't see much of the bottom row of teeth.
